About me

Hi, I'm Gianluca.
I'm a registered psychotherapist offering therapy in Horsham, West Sussex, and I work with individuals and couples, both face-to-face and online. But I want to tell you a little about who I am before I tell you what I do — because I think that matters more when you're deciding whether to reach out.
My story
I didn't come to therapy through a straight or easy path. For around twenty years I worked in the construction industry — a world that valued toughness, getting on with it, and leaving little room for what was happening inside. Over time, something shifted. I began to understand that the inner life — the parts of us we don't talk about at work, the patterns we carry from our families, the quiet ache of feeling like we don't quite belong — doesn't just go away if we ignore it. It asks to be met.
That realisation led me to retrain as a psychotherapist. It was a long journey, involving years of academic study, personal therapy, and supervised clinical work. I qualified as a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) in psychotherapy through Metanoia Institute and am registered with UKCP, NCPS, IARTA, and EATA. I work in both English and Italian.
What I carried from my previous life — an understanding of pressure, of not fitting the expected mould, of having to figure things out without a map — I now bring into the therapy room. I think it helps me sit with people who feel like outsiders, or who've had to be strong for too long.

How I work
My core approach is Relational Transactional Analysis (TA) — a framework that I find both intellectually rigorous and genuinely human. TA gives us a way to understand the stories we were handed as children, the roles we learned to play, and the ways we keep recreating the past without meaning to. But what I care about most isn't the theory — it's the relationship we build in the room together. Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the most significant factor in whether therapy helps. So that's what I pay attention to.
I work at your pace. I won't push you into territory you're not ready for, and I won't give you a formula. I'll try to be present with you — genuinely, not just professionally — and I'll be honest with you, including when that's uncomfortable.
Sessions are usually weekly and last 50 minutes for individuals and 70 minutes for couples.

Who I work with
I work with adults across a wide range of difficulties: anxiety, depression, panic attacks, trauma and PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. I have a particular interest in working with people who have felt different, marginalised, or misunderstood — people who perhaps learned early that certain parts of themselves weren't welcome.
My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and neurodivergent affirming. I'm neurodivergent myself, and that's not just a line on a page — it genuinely shapes how I understand the experience of navigating a world that often wasn't designed with you in mind.
I also work with couples who want to find their way back to each other, or who need a safe space to decide what's next.
