How does it work?
Starting is simpler than you might think
If you've been thinking about therapy for a while, you may have found yourself hesitating — unsure what to expect, or wondering whether it would actually help. That's very normal. Most people feel some uncertainty before they begin.
Here's what getting started with me actually looks like.
Step 1 — Get in touch
You can contact me through the form on this website or by phone. I'll usually respond within one working day. There's no need to explain everything in your first message — a brief note about what brought you here is enough to start.
Step 2 — Free introductory call
Before any commitment is made, I offer a free 20-minute call — by phone or video, whichever you prefer. This is a chance for us to speak, for you to get a sense of who I am, and for me to understand a little of what's brought you here. You can ask me anything you like. At the end of the call, we can decide together whether it feels right to go further.
There's no pressure. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, I'll do my best to point you in a helpful direction.
Step 3 — Intake form
If we both feel it is a good fit and you would like to go ahead, I will send you an intake form to complete and return to me. This gives me the information I need to prepare thoroughly for your assessment session and ensures we can make the most of our time together from the very start.
Step 4 — Assessment session
If we both feel comfortable moving forward, we'll arrange a first session. This is an extended conversation — 50 minutes for individuals, 70 minutes for couples — where we can explore what's brought you to therapy in more depth and begin to get a sense of how we might work together.
The fee for this session is £70 for individuals and £90 for couples.
By the end of this session, we'll have a clearer picture of what you're looking for and how I can best support you. We'll talk about what ongoing therapy might look like — whether that's open-ended weekly sessions or a more defined course of, say, 12 weeks.
Step 5 — Therapy agreement and weekly sessions
If you decide to continue following the assessment, I will send you a therapy agreement to review and sign. Once that is in place, your regular weekly sessions begin.
Some people prefer open-ended therapy with no fixed end date, working through things as they arise. Others find it helpful to work within a more structured framework — for example, a series of 12 weekly sessions with a clear focus. We will talk through what works best for you and agree on an approach together.
Sessions are held weekly, either face-to-face at my practice room in Warnham, Horsham, or online via a secure video platform across the UK.
