Depression Therapy Horsham | Inner Growth Pathways

When everything feels heavy

It isn't always dramatic. Sometimes depression doesn't look the way people expect. It might not be crying every day or being unable to get out of bed — though it can be that too. More often it's a quiet heaviness that settles over everything. A flatness. The things that used to matter somehow don't anymore. You go through the motions, keep functioning, maybe even look fine from the outside — while inside something has gone dim.

You might have been living with this for so long that it's started to feel like just who you are. It isn't. And you don't have to keep carrying it alone.

What depression can look like

Depression is not one thing, and it doesn't feel the same for everyone. You might recognise some of these:

  • A persistent low mood, sadness, or a strange emotional numbness — feeling very little rather than feeling bad
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy — hobbies, relationships, work, everyday life
  • Exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix — a bone-deep tiredness that makes even small tasks feel disproportionately hard
  • Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things
  • Withdrawing from people you care about, even when you don't want to
  • A harsh inner critic — a voice that tells you you're not enough, that things won't get better, that you're a burden
  • Changes in appetite or sleep — too much or too little of either
  • A sense that the future feels blank or out of reach

Depression has a way of telling you that nothing will help and that reaching out isn't worth it. That voice is a symptom, not the truth.

How I work with depression

My approach is rooted in Relational Transactional Analysis, drawing also on humanistic and psychodynamic thinking. Rather than simply targeting symptoms, we work together to understand what is underneath your depression — the losses, the unmet needs, the beliefs about yourself that may have been quietly shaping how you feel for a long time.

Depression often carries a great deal of unexpressed feeling — grief, anger, longing — that has had nowhere to go. Therapy creates a space where those feelings can begin to move, and where you can start to reconnect with yourself and with what matters to you.

This is collaborative, relational work. You won't be given a programme to follow or a set of exercises to complete. You'll be met with genuine curiosity and care, at a pace that feels right for you.

I offer face-to-face depression therapy in Horsham, West Sussex, and online sessions across the UK.

I work with LGBTQ+ clients and my practice is fully affirming. If your depression is connected to experiences of rejection, shame around your identity, or the exhaustion of hiding who you are, this is a space where all of that can be brought without judgement.
